whiplash from auto accident

Auto accidents are scary—even if they are low impact. People involved in auto accidents are often too overwhelmed to realize that they are injured, or their injuries might not show symptoms right away. But even low impact auto accidents can lead to injuries that can cause chronic health problems if left untreated. These signs could mean you have whiplash and should schedule an appointment with our Ft. Lauderdale chiropractor at A Place of Health for auto injury treatment.

1. Tightness or stiffness in the neck

Whiplash can cause the muscles in your neck to tighten up, making your neck feel stiff and making it harder for you to move your head comfortably.

2. Constant headaches.

Most people experience headaches, but if you are experiencing constant headaches after being involved in an auto accident, it could be a sign of whiplash. This injury often causes headaches that start at the base of the skull and radiate out toward the forehead.

3. Ringing in the ears.

If you hear a constant ringing in one or both ears since the auto accident, this could be a sign of tinnitus caused by whiplash.

4. Painful chewing or swallowing.

Whiplash can cause the head and neck to hyperextend, potentially misaligning your jaw and damaging soft tissue that surrounds your neck. This can make it painful to chew and swallow.

5. Cognitive issues.

In some cases, whiplash can cause a concussion. This can lead to cognitive issues such as memory and focus problems, personality changes, and irritability. Whiplash-related concussions can also cause anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, and lead to lifelong health concerns.

6. Soreness in the shoulders and upper back.

Whiplash causes the head to snap back and forth rapidly, which can lead to pain and soreness in the shoulder and upper back.

7. Blurry vision.

When whiplash causes a concussion, it can affect your eye movements and cause you to experience blurry vision.
